The CMI Expedition Ascender incorporates the most comfortable handgrip ever seen on an ascender. Our ergonomic design cushions the hand and provides something substantial to to hold on to.     The Rock Exotica™ OMNI BLOCK® is a mix of the old and the new. Rotating swivel pulleys, called “blocks” in year past, have been around for centuries with drawing dating back to ancient Greek inventor, Archimedes (The first know recorded source of the common pulley system). Originally the first such pulleys were carved and fashioned from actual blocks of wood reinforced with metal banding to prevent the wood from splitting under load. Up to now, rescue pulleys have been the standard side swing plate models that involve rotating the side plate and the introduction of the rope into the sheave. Increased strength is cited as the main reason that life safety pulleys are designed this way.

    Incredibly quick to attach, the Rock Exotica Omni Block is a high strength (38 kN), swiveling rope block/pulley. Like RE’s popular swivel connector, these pulleys eliminate twisting from rope rigging systems with smooth, ball bearing action. Each precision fabricated alloy block has a unique button-activated release feature that allows instant access to the sheave for midline attachment. The milled alloy attachment eye is large enough to accept most carabiners and snaps. Pulley 1.5” and accepts up to ½” rope.

    The Aztek system was developed in Arizona based Ropes that Rescue Ltd rigging programs around the world. These, configured as "set-of-fours" (double blocks) will enable the rescue practitioner greater versatility in a personal mechanical advantage (PMA) for rescue and general rigging. The swivel Omni pulleys (blocks) are hewn from a solid block of high strength aluminum and are engineered with great pride to withstand over 8,000 lbs (36kN) of tensile force end to end. Sterling Rope Company has also designed sewn products for these pulleys including the 8mm restraint cord, rated at 4,270 lbs (19kN) and both ratchets in two colors, and shock absorber/restraint cords.

    The set of two blocks are different colors for ease of identification. Turn the set-of-fours one way and you have a 5:1 mechanical advantage. Turn it around and a 4:1 w/change of direction is the result, making this PMA extremely versatile.

    Also, the progress capture ratchet prusik can be attached at either end (orange to orange, or blue to blue). The progress capture prusiks are laced onto the restraint cord and then formed into a directional prusik hitch (3 on 2), which prevents the inadvertent loss of the prusic once assembled. One quick pin is sold with each set of blocks. Additional pins may be purchased if needed or if one wished to hold a spare in the opposite block.

    NOTE: Generally, 2 Aztec Pulleys would be used together with 1 Rope Cover and 1 Quick Release Pin 1/4"
