As more fire departments began utilizing postitive pressure verntilation as a primary attack weapon, they have requested more and larger PPV blowers. Evidence in the field shows that even with modern grouping techniques, exisitng PPV's were not of sufficient size and power to maintain pressure and flow in buildings with vast amounts of open space, such as large gymnasiums, warehouses, shopping malls, convention halls and high rise buildings. Modern materials and modern architecture have made the enclosure of vast spaces commonplace. Even small towns have huge warehouses that enclose hundreds of thousands of cubic feet of uncumbered space, as well as regional shopping malls and large enclosed sports complexes and retail super stores. To provide quick pressure to the installation was beyond the capabilities of the PPV's that are now being used by most fire departments. Super Vac has conquered this problem with the creation of the BFF-502, a PPV blower with a gigantic 8 blade carbon fiber prop, powered by a fuel injected Chevy 502 engine that produces over 750,000 cfm of fresh air, removing smoke, contaminants and providing cool, clean air for victims, workers, and emergency personnel. It is the intent of this specification to describe a Large Positive Pressure Ventilator for use exclusively in the Fire, Emergency, and Armed Services.
  • Industrial or Balloon Type Blowers are not acceptable.
  • The manufacturer will have built at least two ventilators of this type prior to supplying the department with the unit - No Exceptions
  • It Shall have an eight-blade propeller, seventy-eight inches in diameter minimum, fabricated of solid carbon fiber material. - No Exceptions
  • Is powered by a 500 Horsepower engine minimum. The engine shall be multi-port fuel infected for power, easy start during extreme temperature, and to prevent icing. Carborated engines are not acceptable - No Exceptions
  • The blade shall be driven via a reduction drive mechanism, that matches engine power to blade pitch and prevents crankshaft loading. Ventilators that utilize hydraulic drives are not acceptable due to the power lost in the hydraulic system. - No Exceptions
  • The front rear guards shall be designed to OSHA and UL Standards to prevent accidental contact with the blade.
  • The controls shall include an instrument cluster consisting of water temperature, oil pressure, hour meter, fuel level, battery voltage, oil temperture, and engine rpm.
  • The unit shall be provided with a fuel tank of 70 gallons minimum and a run time of 6 hours.
  • The lighting package shall include two 18” amber warning lights two rear zone spot /flood lights’ and one area floodlight.
  • The engine shall be supported by 3' square by 11 gauge steel minimum.
  • The battery shall be a Gel type 1700 Amp minimum to hold a charge for long periods of time and prevent corrosion during charging.
  • The unit will have a 100 Amp alternator minimum,
  • The radiator shall be all aluminium welded high capacity race type.
  • It will be capable of operation from -30 to 120 degrees F.
  • Option: The ventilator shall be mounted to a dual torsion mounted axle trailer and shall include the following: Storage Locker, hitch at 19 inches from ground level, electrical trailer brakes, 7 pin ( or 6 pin) electrical trailer plug, break-away switch, amber warning lights, aluminum wheels, radial tires.
